Landed in India

First full day in Chennai, arrived last night about 8pm. Its approximately 32 degrees all the time, even at night and extremely humid. Flight was as okay as it can be for tall people and the food on the domestic flight (second) was a really tasty curry. Great getting to see all the other volunteers again and we are all staying in Restless Development headquarters 45 minutes approx outside Chennai, 13 girls in our dorm set and a mixture on the floor above. I've been lucky and got my own sub-room for the 2 weeks we are here for training and it seems the coolest of the rooms so is used if people want some peace and quiet. Conditions are extremely basic but great experience. We have weak internet which I can get access to on occasion if not many others use it. All the local people are very friendly and most understand basic English so it is easy to buy stuff in the shops or barter. Shop around the corner sells Red Bull which is sadly not sugar free but can't be too picky. It does sell loads of British foods like magnums and dairy milk but just cold water (rare) and Red Bull as my treat. Loads of cows in the street as well as dogs, cats and goats. Main road is made of tarmac but sides are all dust giving the air a spicy/dusty smell all the time. Some short heavy rainfall sessions but monsoon season is coming in October as well as Ghandi's birthday and fortunately Diwali, the festival of lights, which is a huge Hindu celebration and I'm very lucky to be here for it. Going to learn some more Tamil soon. Today was a rest day but we had curfew of 4pm as all the shops closed due to a riot (we were safe though). Training is planned for tomorrow but the atmosphere is very relaxed here so who knows.

Would love to upload all my pictures but it takes over 5 minutes per photo and its past 1am. Goodnight, more updates soon.

  1. If you've got no intention of printing your pics, and just keeping them for PC and blog use... you can go into settings and choose a lower resolution size setting. This will cut down your upload speeds considerably. But will keep quality good for use. XXX

  3. Is there any way I can change the resolution before I upload them but keeping the quality high on the camera? Hi to you both! xx

  4. On the 'playback' screen... one of your options will be resize.... this usually creates a copy of the original at the size you want. try a test shot... do the resize option. then put the SD card in your netbook to see if a copy has been created... if not the only option is then an editing suite xxx
