Golden Temple

Visit to Golden Temple outside Vellore today with Vellore 1 group. Sadly, it takes 3.5 hours to get there from Alangayam but was worth it. Had some lunch and had to give in all bags, shoes and cameras as not allowed in the Golden Temple. Bought a guidebook so have some pics via that to show. It is golden plated and surrounded by corridor in the shape of the star of David. It cost approximately 6 million to build and there is a sign saying that some people may ask why this money wasn't spent on schools etc but by building the temple they have encouraged people to be enlightened meaning they will build the schools as a result. Possibly a incorrect theory I think. The temple itself was incredibly beautiful and ornate. After this we visited temple over the road which is also no cameras but occasionally has an elephant in but wasn't there today. Hindu's are very big on multicoloured temples and shrines to their gods covered in incense and flowers. We left about 6pm and got back to Alangayam via the "direct bus" which involved 2.5 hours of windy single carriageway tarmac road boarded by dirt track in the dark through all small villages between here and Vellore. A variety of experience today to say the least.

Together again, Vellore groups 1 and 2 for day out together.

Golden temple in centre surrounded by star of David walkway. At night you can see it lit up from about 10 minutes drive away by bus. It is breathtaking to see it lit up like molten gold.

Picture of Golden temple from my book.

Sneaky picture over the wall of goddess in second temple.
