Home in Alangayam

Missed out on the park/zoo which was apparently a sad state of affairs while waiting for the ill people to get back from hospital or sleep off some nausea. Got 3 buses into central Chennai to one of the busiest shopping areas in the city. It was about 34 degrees and incredibly crowded. Went shopping and wasn't going to buy anything but caught the fever and bought 2 pairs of pants, a skirt, a salwar (top) and approx 8 scarves for £17.50 total. Just to get by and fit in with locals more as they are constantly taking pictures of us or talking to us. I am continuously impressed, considering the conditions these people live in, as I have found the Indian people to be some of the friendliest people ever.

Family sat on the beach (Bay of Bengal)

Bus being packed for 5 hour drive via Vellore 1 (group denomination) to Vellore 2 based in Alangayam.

View from the roof of the house I am sharing with 7 awesome volunteers and team leader for the next 10 weeks. There is decent wifi, western toilets, running water, power cuts, bucket showers (need electericity to run water pump so power cut = no water) so we have been very lucky. View is amazing and humidity is high but temperature lower than Chennai. Hoping for some storms, could hear them overhead when we arrived. We are in a rural village up in the mountains outside Vellore.

First pic of me on blog, me and my Macaque buddy who are everywhere. Day off tomorrow for Eid so lie in I think.
