Travelling about

Went to Nimmiyamputtur's village presidents house yesterday for post Diwali dinner but as he was poorly he gave us sweets and coffee. When he is better he said he will put on a grand affair in the village and also got us an invite to his main home in Bangalore. Today was meant to be a meet and greet in Nimmi with a volleyball game but bad weather meant we had to call it off. Sat in local dentists office who serves several of the local villages alone. Every Saturday morning they have a walk-in clinic for children who come every 6-8 months on school trips which they attend especially on a Saturday for this reason. I was amazed he managed to maintain a conversation with us while checking children's teeth for 3 hours and applying fillings. They record ages and numbers but not specific names. Dental fluorsis is a big problem with school children and they need to be encouraged to brush twice a day. He found it very strange we pay 100 Rs. for baby teeth which is actually enough to feed someone for a day.

Went to Tirraputtur this afternoon as we were free. Did some shopping in a mall which is several shops in a single buiding. Was nice to be able to buy some things we can't get in our village such as shampoo and sponges. First floor was general food products, gifts/cosmetics on second floor, kitchenware on third floor, clothes on fourth floor and arcade/restaurant on fifth floor. Toilets on the roof, literally. Once it was evening the sky lights up sporadically with lightening but no thunder/rain, very beautiful to watch.

Super Dentist!

Temple and pond opposite mall.

SUGAR FREE RED BULL!!!!! :O (red bull is rare enough but sugar free is almost impossible)

Tirraputtur is surround by mountains and is our biggest local town about 1hr 15 mins away. Most towns are repeated shops such as electrical goods, bakery, biscuits, fancy (jewellery). sandals, saree/clothes and hardware stores. Seems a big range but these identical towns are huge so it gets repetitive quickly. Villages are mini versions of the same shops.

Epic open-air toilets which look out over the whole city AND they were WESTERN! Unless you were brave and use that squat one at the back behind the container.
