Bangalore - Day 1

Internet is back up and running, hallelujah!

After planting seeds in kitchen garden on Friday we got 2 buses, 5 hours up the road to Bangalore in the next province to Tamil Nadu so all of my learning of Tamil was useless. Most of the people spoke good English so managed fine. Arrived at 10pm in Hotel Janpath which was a fantastic taste of civilisation with its hot showers available but only in the morning (yes you had to hold the button down to keep it as a shower and not a tap but small complaint), soft pillows/mattresses, tv and wi-fi in lobby.

Sight seeing in the morning to local temples, Tippu Sultan's Palace and Lalbagh botanical gardens all of which were beautiful. Bangalore has a poorer area where you see the locals in their usual saree/lunghi with normal market stalls. In the central area such as MG road (Mahatma Ghandi), there are lots of western shops like Converse, Puma and Levi. We went to that area in the afternoon and had KFC for lunch with Starbucks for afters (christmas cookie frappuccino and orange red velvet cake). Wandered around the shops and marvelled at all the people in western clothes speaking English. It is sad that it is such a rich area and 10 minutes down the road people are living in poor conditions with vermin and rubbish tips in the streets.

Enjoyed some home comforts shopping in Indian London including hand-sanatizer on all the tables and free packet of tissues with every meal in McDonalds. No beef on the menu but the chicken maharaja mac might have been a good substitute.

Frappacinno to get over not having one in Heathrow 4 which I had planned as they don't have a Starbucks, they had Costa but its not the same!
