Pondicherry - Day 1

Back from Pondicherry where we stayed as a big group from Thursday to today. Going to update my blog over the next few days with each separate day. Travelled from Alangayam to Pondicherry on Thursday via buses and took about 8 hours from door to door. We went down this day in particular as had been invited to the wedding of one of our national trainers and all the other groups were going as well as the programme co-ordinators from Chennai. It was a hindu-christian wedding and very lovely to be invited to. Everyone got dressed up in their sarees (well the girls did) and stayed for a few hours then home to bed as everyone tired from early morning starts.

Entrance to venue with red carpet covering bed of leaves. There are several separate function halls within the building and a hotel opposite, seemed to be designed for events such as this.

Dinner set out like a conveyor belt with people coming downstairs and sitting next in the row infront of food already laid out. Traditional Indian thali with people offering you more food as soon as there was space on your leaf, very tasty.

Picture time which I am sadly missing from but you can see the edge of me. All the international volunteers, the programme co-ordinators, the bride and the groom. The bride and groom sat on the stage for hours while different groups queued to have videos and pictures taken with them. There were tv's around the venue broadcasting the feed from the video camera.

The seating area facing the stage. Us English people were the only group that seemed to dance all night.

Me in my saree.
